Mmmmm, cake???

Whew, it's been a busy couple of weeks! Buying a house & attempting to pack up your life, working, and taking care of the house we're in currently all while chasing an 11 month old is hard work, people! Hannah is getting busier by the day, but I wouldn't change a minute of it. Her 1st birthday is just 8 days away, 8 days! The past year has gone by so quickly and I know that it's not going to slow down anytime soon.

We went to have her 1 year pictures taken this past Sunday & she did a really good job, even if she was afraid of the smash cake, lol. She really surprised me, I honestly thought that she was going to dive into that thing like there was no tomorrow, but she didn't want anything to do with it. She was fine if Rick or I fed it to her, I mean she liked eating it, just not "smashing" or playing in it. I don't know if she just didn't like the way that it felt or if it was that we were in a strange place with this strange new thing. Who knows, what I do know though is that she wasn't having it. We had to take it away because she'd start crying anytime we put her down near it. Of course with her crying, she wanted her mama, so I had to let the little icing covered monkey climb on my lap and all over me which resulted in me being covered in icing as well. Oh, the things we do for our little ones when they're upset. I didn't care though, it's been almost a year and it still hurts my heart every time she cries. Aside from the fear of the cake though, I think we got some super cute pics of her & I can't wait to see them!

I really hope that she'll enjoy it more at her party next weekend, I want her to have a good time at her very first hay-day of sweet icingy (Like that word? I just made it up) goodness. I have my doubts now though since she tends to clam up sometimes when everyone is up in her face, then add something new and unfamiliar to the mix and it could just be a recipe for a Hannah melt down. I'm not going to worry about it though (as she proved to me on Sunday, you can never count on her to react the way you think she will), we'll just have to take it as it comes and go with the flow. Maybe she'll decide that she LOVES the cake. I suppose we'll find out next Saturday & I'll definitely update.

  1. Yeah, you never know which way it will go. Harmony didn't really love smashing her smash cake either. Marc ended up smearing some all over her face and triggering a meltdown which HE got to take care of and clean her up. Men. haha. Layla dove right into hers. I used a really soft icing on hers, though. It was cool whip mixed with pudding and I think it was an easier texture than the buttercream I used on Harmony's. Just a thought. ENJOY IT!!!!!!! :) And post LOTS of pictures of her! She is so stinkin' cute! I just want to squeeze those little cheeks of hers. Heh.
